vilisto wins German Innovation Award for Climate and Environment
Hamburg-based vilisto, the innovation leader in digital heat management, is delighted to have won the German Innovation Award for Climate and Environment 2020 in the category “Using digital transformation for climate and environmentally friendly innovations“.
With the support of EIT InnoEnergy, the innovation engine for sustainable energy in Europe, vilisto is developing smart, self-learning radiator thermostats for commercial and public buildings that have integrated presence detection, learning algorithms and room climate sensors. With the technology and the associated online platform, companies and municipalities can save up to 32% on heating costs and reduce CO2 emissions. Founded in 2016, the company launched its first Beta thermostat series with pilot customer RheinEnergie in the same year, and then in 2018 vilisto started series production.
Out of more than 140 applicants, seven companies were awarded the Innovation Prize in various categories. This is awarded every two years by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the Federation of German Industries (BDI) for solutions that stand out through innovation and progress in the field of climate and environmental protection.
In a video message, Svenja Schulze, Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Holger Lösch, Deputy Chief Executive of the BDI, and jury member Nico Peterschmidt congratulated all the award winners.
Because the award ceremony planned for 26 March in Berlin had to be cancelled due to the Corona epidemic, the winners received the prestigious €25,000 award by post. However, this did not dampen the joy at vilisto, which duly celebrated the win at a virtual team party.
Christoph Berger, Managing Director of vilisto, said: “We are overjoyed and proud to receive this award, which recognises the work of the entire team and emphasises that we are on the right track with our climate mission. It is an absolute privilege to be recognised by the BMU and BDI in this way. It encourages us even more in our plan to expand our sales throughout Europe and thus make an even greater contribution to climate protection.“
Christian Müller, Managing Director of EIT InnoEnergy Germany, added: “Congratulations to the whole vilisto team on this great award! Since its foundation in 2016, vilisto has proven to be a true digital pioneer whose heat management solution brings both huge economic and environmental benefits to its customers in the building sector.“
